What I like about the first trailers for Independence Day 2: Resurgence is Jeff Goldblum. One of my favorite actors, he seemed to have almost disappeared after starring in a string of classic science fiction movies in the 80s and 90s, from The Fly, to Jurassic Park, to the first Independence Day movie in 1995.
In Independence Day 2: Resurgence, Golblum plays David Levinson, a scientist and the Director of Earth Space Defense (ESD). The second lead from the original film, Will Smith, apparently pulled out because he wanted more money. Director David Emmerich told to Daily News Will Smith is not returning because “he’s too expensive”.
We’ll also get to see Brent Spiner (Data from Star Trek) and Bill Pullman reprise their roles, and if the trailer is anything to go by, a ridiculous amount of special effects. Things will explode. Aliens will waggle their tentacles. Earth will be threatened. Speeches will be made. Flags will be waved. If they can add a plot to go along with it all, perhaps Emmerich can create a sequel that isn’t filled with ridiculously large plot holes. Either way, Jeff Goldblum is in it, so I can’t wait. Independence Day 2: Resurgence is due out 24 June, 2016.
